[Pffft. Oh, Naoki. Mikage just smiles faintly, sitting down on the edge of the fountain. He's okay with it if Naoki is.]

Don't worry about that. The happy ending is the part that really matters, after all.

Yeah...that's right. [It doesn't bother Naoki as much--the thought of talking about it now. Maybe because there is actually a happy ending he can tell people. Of course, some things are still too difficult to say, but.

He plops down on the fountain next to Mikage, pressing his fingertips together.] Well... What happened was that my world ended. [...] A couple of people brought about the end of it.

Wh... why would they do that? Was there something wrong with the world, or were they just that sort of people?

[He can't imagine it... it's one thing to end your own life - which is terrible enough - but to want to destroy everyone else, too...?]

They...weren't happy with the world as it was. [Naoki frowns, bringing his folded hands up to his mouth. He thinks that that kind of thought is selfish, above anything. No one person has the right to decide what the world will be...hence why he put it back.]

I heard that it's an inevitable thing, the world ending and being reborn, but I don't know. I was never satisfied with that. [He glances to Mikage out of the corner of his eye.] There was a man named Hikawa. He brought it about-- They called it the "Conception".

"Conception"... [Weird. And freaky. People can just destroy or rebuild the world the way they want? Could that happen anywhere else, or is Naoki's world just special?

It's scary...]

Mm. Basically, after that, the people who were left all started to come up with their own Reasons. That is, what they wanted the world to be.

[He pauses.] But I was told I couldn't come up with my own, but none of the others' Reasons were good.

Because you were- ...like that? [He's not even really sure what to call it. "Demon" means a lot of different things to him, and he could never define a friend as one.] So you broke the rules or something?

[Naoki nods.] I was changed after the Conception. [He looks out thoughtfully.] I did. I thought I had to at least try, you know? [And he's infinitely glad he did.]

So it turned out it was worth it. That's awesome! You're amazingly strong, Naoki!

[It's really impressive. He'd have liked to make some kind of impact on the world in his life, too. Maybe as a dragon he'll have a better chance of that.]

[Naoki blinks-- And then he ducks his head, sheepish.]

Nah, I mean... Well... [He is amazingly strong but pffff acknowledging it.] I'm just glad my gamble turned out.

I'm glad, too. It must've been hard, to make a decision like that.

Yeah. [...] A lot of things happened that maybe I could've...prevented if I went with one of the others' Reasons, but.

[He shakes his head.] I couldn't.

What does that mean, anyway? "Reasons", I mean. You mentioned that before.

They're like...the vision someone has of the world they want to create. There were three of them.

[He frowns.] The Reason of Shijima was one. It was focusing on a world where everyone was the same. Where nobody'd have their own identity, or individuality.

...And somebody wanted that kind of world? Isn't that... kind of boring?

[Really boring, actually. You can't have friends when no one is an individual...]

Yeah, someone did. [A quick, half-rueful smile.] And it is.

[Naoki leans back slightly, hands resting on the edge of the fountain to either side of him.] The other Reasons weren't much better than that.

[Wow. That's... seriously bad.]

So you fixed the world... is it safe now? Or will someone try to destroy it again?

It's possible someone might, but... I don't think so. In the first place, it was pretty lucky Hikawa even found and figured out how to bring about the Conception.

[He wonders that, if in the world he recreated, he'd brought it back without that scripture.] If someone tries again, though, I'll just have to stop them. Yeah?

Right! Of course. I hope you don't have to, though. You deserve a peaceful life, especially after something like that.

Thanks, Mikage. [He grins, warmly.] Being here again, though, it's kind of like having a chance to rest. Even if it's not always peaceful.

Sometimes a little excitement is good, right? Otherwise we'd be so peaceful that we'd get lazy.

[He's had plenty of lazy days and enjoyed every one of them.]
