[Naoki beams at that. So nice, Mikage.

At that, though, he pauses and looks sheepish, raising a hand to the back of his neck.] Last week, in fact. I didn't remember everything, at first... But I think I've remembered it all now.

[Well, if not most of it. Parts of his memory are spotty, but he's glad he's remembered those he was close to.]

Yeah, I get what you mean. I had that problem too- they sent me home for a bit, and when I came back everything was all jumbled up in my head. Some people were familiar, but most of them were total strangers to me! It was weird to remember it all bit by bit.

[Naoki looks surprised before he nods.] Yeah. It's like- Having all these pieces but not knowing how they connect. Wandering around the village helped me, though.

[Quite a bit of quiet thinking time and re-familiarising himself to ease the memories back in.]

At least you showed up here like this. [He gestures to Naoki's now-human body.] I was stuck as a fyulong dragon for like two months! It was a pain, let me tell you.

--eh? [That fluffy cute thing he was before? Naoki gives him a sympathetic look.] Ahh, I can imagine.

Shuri even made me his pet. It was pretty ridiculous for a while.

But you're back to being human now, yeah? [He moves to sling an arm about Mikage's shoulders companionably, jostling him.]

[Mikage laughs easily and nods, responding in kind by winding an arm around Naoki as well.]

Yep! One-hundred-percent human! It feels good.

[No curse, no half-missing soul, no reincarnated form. He had to die for it, but at this point that's- well, mostly okay.]

It does. [For both of them. Even if there's still some of Naoki that isn't entirely so, it's still better than before.] And all the better-- I like being able to talk to you.

[He chuckles.]

So! What've you been up to?

Haha, me too! Talking, that is. Not much has been going on though, really! Sort of just been getting back into the groove of things now that I'm normal again. Got back in the Brigade, though, and I'm looking after Shuri, so it finally feels sort of normal again.

Is Shuri a friend from your world? [He seems curious-- And then he can't help but think of how he used to do the same. Used to, he thinks almost glumly.]

Yeah, he is. Kind of a childhood friend and kind of not- my family's been his family's servants for generations, so we grew up in the same household.

Really? [Naoki blinks.] Huh.

Yeah, and now I'm taking care of him again, go figure! It's like my life has come full circle.

Heh-- Well, as long as you're not unhappy with it.

Nah, I don't mind. To be honest, it's been kind of a relief. Looking after him is familiar, so it feels a little bit like home.

You're a good guy, Mikage.

I don't know, it's kind of an investment for the future, too! If I take good care of Shuri, maybe he'll take care of my family when he goes home. My little sister will need a master a lot more gentle than Shuri's dad- she's kind of shy. And my little brother can be a total brat, so Shuri'd need some patience to handle him!

[And it's not like Mikage will be able to do anything about it back there. It's a good trade-off.

...Though he doesn't mind looking after Shuri, either.]

[Naoki blinks at that, slowly.]

What about you? [He wonders-- Mikage makes it sound as though he's not going back.]

[Whoops, time to backpedal.]

Me? No, I've got other things that I need to do when I get back to my world. Besides, I'm not allowed to work as a servant anymore, so it's not like I can go back to Shuri's place.

[Action, March 15]

Ah. [Naoki nods.]

So you're making sure your family's looked after good. [Pauses, curious:] How come you aren't allowed to?

[fyulong]

Oh, because of this. [Mikage gives the scar on his cheek a little tap.] I got it in a spar, so I was dismissed as one of the family butlers. Shuri's father is really particular about presentation, so it made me look like some kind of ruffian, I guess!

What? [Naoki seems bemused, shaking his head.] I guess some people are bound to be like that... [Naoki's the kind of person who thinks it looks rather cool.]

It's fine anyway, it didn't bother me. I got to go to the military school and meet Teito because of it! Since then I think I've lived a great life, so I don't have any regrets.
